Bobby Rico
Inspired to act by Jamie‘s @JamieLynn and their “fossil a day” thread. I been thinking about creating a digital visual catalogue of my collection for a long time now . Been very dyslexic this is a difficult task to undertake. After seeing Jamie’s thread I thought one fossil a day will just take a sort time to photograph, collate and post, making this more achievable task . I will also keep a digital copies for my records. Posting on the forum means that other members can see my small collection and help me if needed with incorrect IDs or names that have changed . The forum has been really helpful in organising my collection . I really can’t gain information from books or scientific papers, the level of concentration I need to comprehend large passages of text is beyond me. This meanings that most of my information is from TFF. For that I thank you all greatly. Edited February 3, 2022 by Bobby Rico 1
Bobby Rico
This week I think I will start with just a few of my trilobites as they are a favourite of TFF. I have been given , found and purchased bugs for years so they should be an interesting mix ( chosen at random). A classic Iberian species Ectillaenus gigantea (Burmeister, 1843),from the Llanvirn Series; Llandelian Stage, Valongo Formation of St Pedro de Cova, Portugal. An English Ordovician trilobite I found a lot of these AMPYX linleyensis from the Hope shales of Shropshire. Very fine condition, virtually full exoskeleton, not including the frontal spine. As good they come from this location. I believe this is an uncommon trilobite from GERMANY, KETTNERASPIS sp.This is the Negative of the fossil, and shows some detail . I think this is cool piece a Trilobite plate many partials and moults Gilwern Hill .UK . Gilwern quarry is privately-owned and is situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. Sorry I can’t find my ID on this maybe Scott @piranha will kindly help. I thought maybe Ogyginus ? Bobby Rico
Thanks both @Sjfriend and @FossilNerd much appreciated. Next up Asaphiscus wheeleri from the Middle Cambrian Wheeler Shale (Red Beds) House Range, Utah. It is a really interesting piece with the red mineral circular staining combined with a cast and the inside view of the shell of the trilobite showing . MrsR gave me this for Christmas it was a bargain at £12.50 it was only sold as bookends. Best Christmas present for years . If any members have any thoughts on this please let me know. Bobby Rico
This week I have a birthday so I thought I would theme the next 7 day posts, The theme is past gifts from TFF members . Chosen completely at random. These very bumpy osteoderm are from Helodermoides a small lizard White River Formation , Oligocene Scenic , South Dakota. The micro matrix also has mammal teeth, bone and huckleberry seeds. The label says “Ant Hill Finds“ if I remember rightly it is a good place to look for small fossil like mammal or dinosaur teeth . As the ants use them as buildings material. You may get a couple of painful hits off the resident collecting them but no pain no gain. huckleberry seeds. Tidgy's Dad
Very nice so far, Bobby. That is a super collection of trilobites. Love the Paucicrura rogata too, though I think that's more likely to be a bit of bryozoan rather than an ostracod. I shall enjoy following this thread. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
