A mould and cast of Spyroceras Nautiloid . @Pagurus I was hoping you could remember the location of this beauty? It also has a little friend that I photographed with a macro lens.

Cheers Bobby

I'm glad you like it, Bobby. I found this a few years ago in New York at the DSR location. Middle Devonian, Windom Shale, Moscow Formation, Hamilton Group, Lebanon, New York. Happy Birthday plus One.

Now for something completely different a coral  , found about 12 years ago . Somewhere In the Yorkshire Dales/ Pennie Way a partially silicified .Actinocyathus floriformis - the large, bubbly dissepiments combined with cerioid structure are distinctive. I think it is pretty nice

I’ve been away for a few days and really missed a lot of good stuff!

Believe it or not, this is my favorite so far Bobby. Love seeing the inside structures of coral and those bubbly dissepiments are lovely.

Some of these cross sections look a lot like the profile picture of @FranzBernhard which I think makes it a rudist?

@Bobby Rico, do you know the name of these rudists? They are quite similar to that one from Gams near Hieflau:

Gams near Hieflau (pdf, external site)

See page 8 and 9.

Don´t know if the name is really correct, they have gone through several renamings (see page 4)...

This week is all about echinoderms . Some of the posts will be in anaglyph 3D . So get digging in the messy drawer for them red and cyan funky glasses and enjoy.

first up is an image to set the scene. A vintage 1953 prehistoric sea first published in life magazine.

British Chalk fossil echinoderm - Phymosoma koenigi. This is a classic chalk fossil found in the Upper Chalk Group of Kent and dates back 87 million years! There also a another echinoderm fossil next to the Phymosoma but that's not been enough details to be able to ID.
