Possible Carnivore Metapodial?

Brandy Cole

Recommended Posts

I found this in Southeast Texas.  It seemed to resemble a big cat metapodial that @garyc found and posted on a past thread, but it has differences, so I could be barking up the wrong tree.

Is it a metapodial or something else entirely?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I will, of course, defer to @Harry Pristis , who is currently looking at this. However, I like to throw my unprofessional thoughts out there sometimes because even if they’re incorrect, maybe others, including myself will learn from my misperceptions. That being said, I’m seeing a rib bone here.

I considered rib, Gary . . . that lateral facet attracts the eye.  I looked at line-drawings of a number of ribs, but couldn't make a match.  In the end, I didn't feel right making any guess.

Thank you all for looking.

It looks like it has three articular facets total.  Two at the top and one on the side.  I'll include a couple more pictures.  It's pretty hard to show the detail since the mineralization is so dark.  I hadn't considered rib, but I'll start checking in that direction too.
