VickyRenee
What is this?? It was found in Leavenworth KS while digging a ditch. It is in rock form and I've never seen anything like this! Measurements are approximately 6.5" x 3" x 3". Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated! Edited July 24, 2022 by VickyRenee
HelicoprionChristian
I honestly have no idea but it strikes me as the remains of a trilobite or some damaged/convoluted form of stromatolite.
FranzBernhard
Looks like some sort of melted plastic? What is it composed of? Is it "rock" or plastic? Franz Bernhard

Franz Bernhard That was a thought at first, like a bunch of plastic cups that got melted. It feels like a light weight rock with some kind of heavier rock on one side. I put 2 more pics of it with flash.
Lone Hunter
Very peculiar, curious what @Rockwood thinks about it.
Ludwigia
I still have to agree with Franz that this is plastic. Of course I don't have it in my hand so I can't say for sure, but its appearance almost screams out plastic. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Kane
Just to be absolutely certain in being able to rule out plastic, have you applied flame to the object? If it gives off a smell or melts, that might be indicative. 1 3 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

Rockwood
No. The most smell likely is usually descried just as hot.

Since most fossils are organisms replaced by minerals, they should not melt under low heat such as a lighter. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Pagurus
It does look like melted plastic to me, probably including some of the soil or rocks it melted onto. Or maybe it could be melted metal? When I saw your post it reminded me of melted aluminum sardine cans I still find on the beach many years after the factory burned down. Some of them have that look of flowing metal (or plastic) that yours has. I'm just throwing in my two cents, maybe it is a fossil of some sort. I'm glad you posted it here in any case. We sure have a lot of curious people here on this forum. Start the day with a smile and get it over with.
VickyRenee
Okay, so it IS plastic! It definitely has the plastic smell and it did catch fire a little. I would have never thought to try to heat it so thank you everyone! I love this forum LOL! I would've hate to have kept this art piece of a stack of plastic cups for years 8
