Hello Everyone,

I bought this tooth nearly ten years ago as a Albertosaurus tooth from the Two Medicine formation, Montana, U.S.A. Whilst updating my labels I have learnt that Albertosaurus is not found in the Two Medicine Formation. As a result, i am asking if anyone can ID this tooth (i know it is very difficult or more likely impossible). I believe it is either a Distal Maxillary or a Distal Dentary tooth.

The MC is 18 whilst the DC is 16 which gives it a DSDI of 1.125.

The tooth is 2.90cm tall and the base of it is 1.22cm by 0.86cm.

the link to some fairly high quality photos is:

thanks in advance,

Josh

Links go bad, rendering topics useless in a short amount of time.

Exactly the opposite of what we are trying to do here - leave a repository of knowledge for folks in the future. ;)

Also, we don't like to have to leave the Forum to look at pictures.

It's a pretty one and sort of robust for its size! I don't think you'll be able to narrow beyond Daspletosaurus and Gorgosaurus, given the size of the tooth and how close DSDI is to 1.0--but I'll be curious to see what they say.

very nice tooth, no clear idea. Compared it with the ones we have, but doesn´t match

Lets wait for @Troodon, I am sure he can solve this miracle

Thank you, starting to think if the seller got the ID of the tyranosaurid wrong they might of gotten the formation wrong aswell?????

Anyway to tell the locality based on the mineralisation of the teeth?
