Ramanessin Mystery Tooth and Vertebra

Recommended Posts

Found a tooth at Ramanessin that I can't ID, and a partial vert. Guessing the tooth is mammal of some sort but can't seem to find a match online or from locals more familiar with the rarer teeth from Ramanessin. Definitely not modern. Any guesses?

There is a lot of Pleistocene material that shows up in those streams.

Yeah I'm guessing that's what it's from, but I'm not overly familiar with the rarer Pleistocene stuff from there.

Though Pleistocene material is found in the brooks from time to time, it is generally rare while recent mammal material is way more common. Often, due to rapid mineralization, it's very difficult to tell if what you have is actually a fossil or a mammal tooth or bone a few hundred years old. If it is something that is now extinct such as a piece of mammoth tooth, then it's easy to tell, but that's a very rare case.
