It's apparent there's some coral in one corner atleast but the impression is what confuses me.

There almost seems to be a discoloration following the fin like marking.

I'd be very appreciative for someone's opinion

It was found at the beach, on the edge of the water.

This seems a more geologic item than a fossil. I'm not as familiar with NB fossils, so perhaps someone else will have a different opinion.

To me, this looks like cement which a modern bryozoan has grown on a part of.

Definitely a modern bryozoan, on an odd rock or man made material.
