Ok guys. I  am new to this and really enjoying it. Figured I  would share a few photos and hope that someone would possibly help me out here. The 3 fossils I have no clue about were found within 30 yards or so of one another. I  appreciate any help, and thanks for looking! Ordovician

Where were they found, please?

And please don't use coins for scale.

This is an international forum and a lot of us don't know what size your different coins are.

Yes, I think that is a trilobite genal spine.

The sectioned object is an orthoconic nautiloid.

And the last ones appear to be bivalve steinkerns.

You also have a lot of orthid brachiopods there.

Indiana, sorry. I  will have to get something for future photos. Sorry

If you want more precise information on the brachiopods, a more precise location will be necessary.

We have to know the formation so that we know which species are present,

I'm sorry, I  am new to this site, and honestly do not use the internet much, and old, hahaha. What do you mean?

Great to see your finds!  I knew it would not take long to get the pics posted.

Non-expert ID on what you have.

#1 a great collecting site!

#2 some nice fossils, including brachiopods, gastropods, bivalves and arthropods.  Nice work finding those.

I made a trip to the local library yesterday and checked out a bunch of fossil books.

The geology of my state tells me how old the area I'm collecting fossils in. Which in turn helps me ID them quicker. The guide books are quick reference pictures to also ID what I've found.

The scale for measuring fossils is metric. MMs and CMs . Coco, one of our moderators has files attached to her signature to click and print.

Here's a link to a thread of the cards I made for showing fossil sizes.

Have fun and be safe out there!

Steve...who is also old and used a penny beside my first fossil pics. Ha ha!
