I’m going to Purse tomorrow and I want to play a game.

I’m heading to Purse State Park tomorrow and I want a chance to share the trip with someone. I like to bring back Matrix( the small stuff) to sort through in my down time. I always find a lot of fossils that are under 5mm playing with this stuff. If anyone would like to pick a number from 1-100 I’ll send (I’ll cover the shipping cost) whoever is closest to my number about 5 lbs of thier own matrix to play with. If you want to take a chance, just post your number and I’ll post the number I picked on Wednesday. For anyone that does get in on the fun, thank you in advance!

I'm curious 1) what type of matrix do you collect from Purse, and 2) what kinds of micro stuff do you find in it?

From what I remember of the 3 or 4 times I've been at Purse/Douglas the beach was mostly sand, fine gravel,  and small stones. Are you just taking shovel fulls right from the beach or do you collect the matrix elsewhere?

You can only choose one number. Four is cheating! :default_rofl:

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

I generally bring back what I guess would be considered a fine gravel. I always do a quick walk across the beach looking for anything that stands out and then settle in for a day of sifting. I generally bring back ray plates, sharks teeth, and bone frags that’ll add up to over 300 fossils in a day before I start checking over the small stuff. When I get a chance I’ll give you the size sifter I use for the bring home matrix.

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

To answer an earlier question, the matrix will be whatever fits through my 1/8 sieve but is caught by my 1/12 sieve. Here’s a pick so that the size can be seen.

I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt

According to the full proof method you must take the year, divide by the month and the day of the post, multiply by pi, then add 11 and round up.

Soooooooo your number is 91
