Dcfossilperson
Hello good people of the forum, I found some fossils along up a Chesapeake Bay beach north of Calvert Cliffs. I am curious about this one which seems to have some kind of pattern and I wonder if it is a fossil (It’s the first two photos which are both sides of the item). I am also very curious about this collection of what looks like big barnacles. If anyone had any information to share about either of these I would be very interested thank you! Thomas.Dodson
Your mystery item is coral. It looks fossilized. Your barnacles are indeed barnacles. "Balanus" are commonly known fossil barnacles from the area although I know that genera has long been a wastebasket taxon. I can't tell if these ones are fossilized or not but if you found them in Choptank formation exposures they probably are.
