Sauropod eggshell pieces

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I bought these eggshell pieces which are megaloolithus type according to the seller. Unfortunately, their origin isn't mentioned, most of these eggshell pieces I saw are allegedly Titanosaurus or Saltasaurus from France or Argentina. Does anyone have any further information on these?

Based on the below topics the brown eggshell piece is from France (compared to the eggshell pieces of the collection). But I'm not sure about the black/white piece. It is also much thicker than the brown one.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I agree that the more orange looking one is likely Hypselosaurus from France. I'm not sure on the other one, as I've not seen one like it before. I have a piece of Saltasaurus eggshell from Argentina, but it doesn't look anything like that.

The 'black/white' piece looks to be a Saltasaurus eggshell, it's similar to other ones Ive seen and it also has the same thickness and texture as Saltasaurus eggshells that I own.

Interesting, how does your Saltasaurus eggshell piece from Argentina look like?

Yes, the shell is very thick, about 6 mm. Similar looking shells are often referred to as Titanosaurus or Saltasaurus from Patagonia, Argentina.

Here's some photos of my Saltasaurus eggshells, sorry for the bad quality. They are about 5 mm thick.

Interesting piece with the three layers on top of each other.

I agree thickness and texture looks similar, only the coloration differs a bit.

Thanks for sharing Daze.😊
