Another hundred or so prestine hemiaster and heteraster echinoids, some foldy and rough shape oxytropidoceras of various sizes, and my first complete engonoceras ammonite. I almost forgot the hamite. I like the cylindrical shapes of the gastropods, too. Not bad for 1.5 hours on a cold day. South Tarrant County, Texas.

Nice haul! We have low temps down into single digits and lots of snow. Ammonite hunting will have to wait another month or so. But they're not going anywhere.

That’s right! Only by virtue of strong water currents..but even that has its limits. 😆

I can’t find my waders, so I’ve been icing my feet every time I step into a creek. Lately, the water has felt warmer than the air..

Splendid. How many different echinoid species?

Thanks Sixgill! I’m pretty sure most (or all) of them are a heteraster species (the ones with one big noticeable groove on top) and most are hemiaster whitei

Thanks Ironhead! I have some denture clams from a brief, cold excursion this afternoon. It’s always something different..which keeps me interested :)

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Love the sutures on that handheld one, perfect size! Looks like a productive trip, I have a sister down in Austin and really need to venture out that way
