This is one I really wish I had a before prep pic. The specimen underneath was a complete surprise.

crinus's Before and After is an excellent Prep Primer.  

The one thing I did not see in there that is a must for tools is... patience.  Work like you seen his pages and posts takes time.

And the other thing you needs is LOTS of free time.  That Montana Platycrinites took me two weeks at 8 hours per day.  That's a bit over 100 hours.  Very sore back after that job.

Wow, if one were to convert that to a price it would be a few thousand $ assuming a moderate prep rate. And that's not even accounting for the base fossil!

This is one reason you don't see a lot of very cool fossils on the market.  Preparation of these things is a labor of love.
