Fossil or stone??

This is the last one for tonight thank you anyone for looking and any info at all is greatly appreciated. I do not have any knowledge on these topics. I am currently just a humble business undergrad. But i try and what I don't know I ask about! Thank you for being here. I have actually found similar things in the Peace River , Florida.. These seemed like "mud_rock" shaped by the swirling currents of the water.  

 

I tend to believe you can find fossils most anywhere in the US if you are willing to travel an hour or two.  I could be wrong.  What State do you call home?   Jack

Yes, the fine layers of sedimentation have eroded at different rates either due to the bigger layer being slightly harder or that the more eroded layers were exposed to the elements for longer before the whole piece broke off the mother deposit. 

Pretty piece though.
