christiemarie1973
Can someone help me out? Do I have a dinosaur tooth fossil? What is this? It was found in Northeast Arkansas, USA
Coco
Hi, I am not an expert on dinosaurs, but it does not seem to be a tooth, does not look like any known. For any request for identification, some information is required to assist those who will be looking at : - place of origin (nearest city and country/state), - the age of the sediment when known, - size, only in cm or inches. If you have nothing to measure, you can print the paper centimeter that I put in my signature to put your fossils on to make your photos, taking care to reveal at least one box with its size to give the value of the scale. Rockwood
This is roughly the shape of some dinosaur teeth. It might sound strange, but I think it's actually too big to be one of them though.
Brevicollis
Very interesting specimen. It could be a tooth or a bone fragment or something man made, but i'm not sure.Is it magnetic ? More pictures without fingers and sice measurements would be helpfull and also the exact found location (City , state , formation) If its known to you . Edited January 28 by Brevicolis 1 Are good signatures really that important ?
Fossildude19
Please take better pictures of the item - in good daylight, on a flat, single colored surface, and from directly above. Both sides please. Also, County where found would be more helpful. Northeast Arkansas encompasses a pretty large area. Looks like some sort of bone to me, but I can't see any details. patelinho7
Two thoughts: - at first glance, it looked like bone to me, and something osteoderm related perhaps? Turtles have some weird osteoderms on their limbs. This kinda reminded me of that. - slag? I then thought it looks like it could be just a suggestive hunk of iron from some sort of industrial activity.

In a field that had been cultivated for years with many indian rocks found. This weighs 13.49 grams, it's not magnetic, has the feel of rock. Fossildude19
I'm wondering if this isn't a piece of pottery. It has a suggestive shape, and I am uncertain about bone, as I am not seeing any bone texture. Could be a suggestively shaped Ironstone concretion, but, ... the shape has me questioning that. 1 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." SPrice
My guess is a broken off piece of Native American Indian soapstone carving. An effigy stone, pipe or similar carving. This guess could be instantly confirmed or dismissed with a fingernail scratch or dragging it across a brick or other hard rough stone. The fractured faces wear area also suggests a stone harder than steatite which in my experience doesn't break, cleave or fracture like this appears. But I threw the idea into the pot anyway. And will throw in ancient mammoth bone, too. lol!
