I was wondering if anyone has done any fossil prep with material from Fossil Hill Nevada?

not me, but can you tell us what this material is.  Never heard of it.  Heck, we all like photos... what does it look like?

Here's a Sat photo. I'm seeing limestone outcroppings.  The horn coral specimens , of the Permian Era, I collected last year are also in limestone matrix. Pretty tough stuff. Stinky rotten egg smell when prepping it.

Hi,

It would be nice to start your own subject, because there you ask a question that has nothing to do with this post, namely the preparation of fossils. And you’ve already asked this question in another subject that has nothing to do with that...

  • 2 weeks later...

Hunted that site years ago but haven't truly prepped any of the ammonites i collected. That limestone is some hard stuff and not always great separation between matrix and specimen. I highly doubt acid would work well.
