North Sulphur River vertebrae

I believe these to be fish vertebrae, they were found on the north sulphur river near Ladonia, TX at various times. I'm curious if anyone may have a thought about what type of fish these might have belonged to, (I know that is a stretch) and if in fact they are fish vertebrae?

Also I have several chunks of these like the piece on the right. I'm not sure what the substance is that they are matrixed in. I'm curious does anyone know what the concretion is made of, and is there a way to remove it without damaging the underlying fossil?

Thanks again for your time.

Yep, fish vertebrae.

Based on size alone these may be Xiphactinus, though there may be other very large fish in this deposit that i have not heard of so check the faunal list for this site.

Nice to think I might have a jawbone for the same critter. (posted earlier)

Many thanks. Any clue as to how to remove the matrix? I have 4 or 5 chunks that have 2-3 vertebrae each in them.
