Ludwigia
Do you mean by "last meal" the darkness inside the echinoid or are you just jesting? What you are showing us is what we call a "fossilen Wasserwaage" in German circles, translated into "fossil spirit level" in English. I other words, the echinoid was filled up to that point with sediment after death and dissolution and the top surface reveals the position in which it was buried when aligned horizontally. 4 2 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. rocket
nice find, this way of fossilisation does not come up often with echinoids, but, there are really several known It is, as explained by Roger, only a special way of fossilisation this is a nice website showing some seeigel-fossilien.de/wasserwaage_wabenigel.htm
DPS Ammonite
In English such fill level structures that indicate the original up direction are called geopetal structures. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Way_up_structure Edited March 22 by DPS Ammonite 3 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. Fossildude19
@Hilary Roberts So definitely not a "last meal". Neat fossilization, though.
