Help me figure out what this is!

I found this in the Wind River formation/ indian meadows formation. It was laying on top of the ground I haven't been able to figure out what it could be and It is so cool I need some help!

Welcome to  the Forum from Maryland.

It's looking like a rock to me. Could you post a picture of the broken end?

The outside of it doesn't feel like a rock

Metamorphic rock, I think.

No enamel, so not a tooth.

No bone texture, so not a claw or bone.

The structures at the broken end look like crystal habit to me.

Not familiar with wind river formation  where and what conditions are involved  can it be a tabulate coral?

Possibly yes! It is in Wyoming about 80 miles outside of yellowstone! We have a lot of coral and sea fossils here!

Makes more sense to me that itd be coral than a rock!

My initial thought was a tusk of se kind?

Not a tusk, unfortunately.

 

Not seeing any coralites, or indications that it is coral, either. 

Quartz is where I am with this.

It is not a tooth tusk or bone  no enamel no trabecular structure.  I thought coral was  possible because of the thin columns visible on the side and in on the broken surface.

It is worth taking it to local fossil club or university geology paleontology department  local people familiar with area will recognize it as a fossil or a type of rock.
