Wow, really nice fossil, though I agree with you, the head would be ideal!

I'm more of a general rockhound than fossil hunter, and it's like getting a huge beautiful crystal.... with a chipped tip. Argh.

I really enjoy going through the shale I've brought home - more so when it actually pays off.

Almost worth the backache of bringing home 50-80 lbs of shale each trip! :rolleyes:

I'm a little late, but WOW!!! :greenwnvy: Those fish are amazingly well preserved! I love those glossy black scales...awsome finds, congrats! :)

Another fish tail... Possibly a Semionotus sp.

That detail is perfect! Is it covered with pyrite? It look silverish..

The preservation of these fish is indeed remarkable.

@ Roz - I think that's just how the underlaying imprint reflects light - there is a bit of pyritization on the partial - looks goldish and copperish in places in certain light. :)

Congratulations Tim on your find.... it was only a matter of time before that complete fish fossils shows up :D

If you take a magnifier... you can see intricate details on the scale microstructure.... have fun!
