Green Mill Run Today!

Well, I ventured off to Green Mill Run in North Carolina today with my brother. We met some fossiling friends and had a great day of being outdoors and having fun! This was my second time going to GMR and my brother's first time. We seriously sprayed ourselves in bug spray and off we went. Those mosquitos were nasty, but it was worth it. I have never seen so many little wonderful spiders. As I have said, I do not fancy spiders. We spent about 6 hours of digging and screening and the headed over to George Powell's. We had such a great visit with him! We were delighted to see his collection. I look forward to going back to see you George very soon! Thank you George!

My brother found a lot of shark teeth. He also found a nice fish tooth with the root. George helped us identify the teeth and other specimens. I found what seemed to be a large tooth of some kind. This was my last few shovels of sediment and there it was. George identified it as a Sperm Whale tooth. I was so excited to hear this! I have posted some pic's from todays excursion and I look forward to getting back there soon.

First pic: Some type of seed, seems fossilized....not sure. Is very hard and does not scratch. Dug it up in about 3 feet down. Hmmmmmm.

Second pic: So close, yet not quite a whole Meg. At least it is a Meg!

Some really nice finds, Libby.. That whale tooth is huge and has a beauty to it.

I would take spiders over scorpions though.. I wish I had a choice! :D

Libby, I would say your brothers tooth is Carcharhinus obscurus, Dusky Shark. our whale tooth is very nice, I have only seen a small handful of them from there and I am not one of the lucky ones.

I meant to say "found", but I guess my phone felt you needed to call your new whale tooth!

Nice finds and report as usual. Ready to go up that way and hunt, but looks like it may rain pretty hard this week.

Hello Tom! Yep, a world without skeeters would be devine. For some odd reason they swarm at me even with bug spray. Thanks about the finds. ;)
