PFOOLEY
I was recently visiting some family near Silver City. The local slopes are Oligocene (Qtg: Gila Group-fluvial, piedmont, and basin floor deposits of SW basins). I found some chaulky nodules eroding from the slope... ...some of which had fossils in them... ... "I am glad I shall never be young without wild country to be young in. PFOOLEY
...I assume these nodules are reworked, maybe from the Silurian and Cambrian rocks that outcrop a few miles away... ... Carl
That "what is it" is whispering "crustacean" to me, but ever so softly. Could be just about anything. Very beautiful! But which one is the suspected "mushroom imprint?"
PFOOLEY
... But which one is the suspected "mushroom imprint?" Sarcasm. Seemed humorous late last night. piranha
Your mystery item is a lower Mississippian trilobite glabella. The tubercles, glabellar lobes and occipital ring are a good match for Piltonia carlakertisae. Congrats on finding this unusual trilobite! Brezinski, D.K.
