Trilobite was the first thing that came to mind - the size is what confused me. I did do some googling and I think I'll go with this until someone gives me something else to hang my hat on :-)

I thought the one post got lost, anyway I think it is Ptychagnostus, which is a Cambrian trilobite, I am no expert on those so others may have input. I have enclosed an example I found on the internet.
