Samwise
Hey all, Having cracked open my Marcasite Nodule today and learnt alot about how they are formed (cheers guys), I've been given some fossils that my dad forgot he had. I doubt they are anything special as he remembers very little about them, but i'd be interested to know more. OK SO here is the beginning of my collection... 1) - Not sure what this is, although i'd hazard a guess at calcite crystals in the middle. 2) I really like this one, no clue about it other than my Dad thinks it came from America 3) Same with these two fellas 4) + 5) look pretty poor to me. I guess the first is a shrimp and the second some sort of lavae, possible dragonfly based on some googles. And finally, a rock I found as a child of which I was convinced was a dinosaur footprint Cheers!
Fossildude19
Hello. Here are my estimations of your items. 1) item is a cut and polished septarian nodule. 2) Maybe a Mioplosus, from the Green River Formation. 3) A pair of Knightia eocaena 4) is a Shrimp, ... possibly from Lebanon. 5) is a beautiful dragonfly larva, maybe from Green River formation. Maybe Miocene of Piedmont, Italy? Libellula doris? 6) is a fossilized mask from "Scream". Nice collection. Thanks for posting these. Thanks for posting these. Regards, Great, thanks for the info and Green River Formation seems to tick the boxes my dad said. I'm surprised by the larva, to me it is like some of the other threads where people have said it looks "painted on". Glad that you think otherwise though. Unfortunately you are wrong about scream, it is most definitely a dinosaur footprint!
DPS Ammonite
Your first item is a calcite lined septarian nodule/geode most likely from near Orderville, Utah. 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. abyssunder
Not conquering I agree with Tim and DPS ammonite. The only one wich is not a fossil is the first one, a typical septarian nodule. Nice assortment! " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Yeh I looked the septarian nodule up and feel silly for asking now as i've seen them loads of times, normally with a large hole in the middle.
