Ptychodus04 Posted March 10, 2016 Share Posted March 10, 2016 I like to use a needle sharpened to a chisel point and use a direct push rather than a round point with a scraping motion. This requires a bit more control to keep from gouging the point into the fossil but it removes the danger of accidentally scraping the bones away. I also slightly dampen the area I am working on to soften the matrix. Also, consolidate with PVA/Butvar as you go to keep the fragile bones in place. Great job for a first prep. FossilDudeCO Posted March 11, 2016 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Looks fantastic there! great job really. you should see the first one I ever tried to do, I was using a dremel engraver (for the first time ever) I lost like half the skull and it ended up looking more like a string of verts with a deformed head lol!
