EFswt
Another random find on a beach. I'm pretty sure it's just minerals/whatever, but I'm curious what you guys think. I have a strong feeling this one won't be able to be identified, but my hopes are high it can be id'd. Rock is app 2" long, 1.25" wide, and .5-.7" tall. The amber-colored smooth stone looking spots will not let light pass thru. There are some bubble-like holes, maybe had gas trapped inside, or maybe eroded by water running thru it. Here's the pics: pic one pic two pic three pic four **NOTE** - ON pic four there is a light blue color, that is a reflection as none of the colors on the stone are blue. Once again, thanks for any help, and it's also greatly appreciated!!!
finderskeepers
really looks like enamel of a tooth, like a worn sharks tooth, but it would help to know where it was found
fifbrindacier
I don't see a tooth here, or, if it is, it must be from a big animal according to the dimensions : 2 inches long, 1.25 wide and 5 to 7 tall (1 inch = 2.5 cm). So, why not a worn shark tooth ? But i do agree the age and location would help very much. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." caldigger
That's not 5-7 inches, it's .5 to .7 (1/2" to 3/4"). Looks like a very worn shark tooth to my eyes.

EFswt
I'm 98% sure it was on a atlantic-side beach in florida Also I'm surprised many of you think it's a shark tooth of some sort, interesting... Also I weighed it, it weighs 0.95oz 1 hour ago, Rustdee said: Looks like a fragalodon to me! Fragaladon? 5 hours ago, fifbrindacier said: But i do agree the age and location would help very much. What do you mean by age? Like how long ago I found it? If so, approx 15-20yrs ago I found it
FossilDudeCO
Age of the rocks you found it in Fragolodon = fragment of megalodon tooth. I don't know about sharks tooth. The white patches look strange to me.

I see what others are saying about it being tooth enamel, I saw this pic from this page. Looks VERY similar to me, so I guess I'm starting to agree on the enamel part
FossilDudeCO
ahh now that I can pull up the big picture on a computer instead of my phone I see what the others see. On my tiny phone pictures it looked as if the white enamel parts were LOWER that is what was confusing me. Yes, my vote is Shark Tooth!
DevonianDigger
I second, or third, or whatever, that it's a shark tooth. I don't know enough about shark teeth to know any more than that, but Atlantic FL coast is definitely prime territory for Meg teeth. 1 Jay A. tmaier
From the second photo (shown by Fossildude above), you can see layers that make me believe the light colored material is a seashell.
