fifbrindacier
I found that coral in the Kimmeridgian of la pointe du Chay, Charentes-Maritime. I have a documentation that shows some corals of that area and the one that looks like more is the Pseudocoenia hexaphyllia, what do you think it is ? The hole in which it is is about 4 cm on 3 cm. 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." abyssunder
Nice scleractinian coral. ...like flowers in the spring Also we have a few genera in Romania, Dobrogea. Besides Pseudocoenia (including P. hexaphyllia) and others there is one named Proaplophyllia sexradiata (RONIEWICZ, 1966). RONIEWICZ, E. 1976. HansTheLoser
Pseudocoenia is a problematic genus due to an unlucky designation of a type specimen of the type species. By now, it is a synonym of Stylina, Alloiteaucoenia, or Heliocoenia, according to the various sources. - Your samples looks to me a mould of a Stylina. Having a picture with scale included, the species can be surely assigned.
fifbrindacier
Above i indicated the size of the hole. As soon as i can i'll give the size of the "flowers". fifbrindacier
The size of the "flower" and between them can be of 4 millimeters. For those who only know the inches : 1 inch = 2,5 centimeters and 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters. 13 hours ago, Guguita said: That's amazing, fifbrindacier! Thanks Guguita. HansTheLoser
@fifbrindacier The diameter is surely not 4 mm, there is with certainty a variation. I also do not know how you did measure the diameter since it is a mould. If the diameterof the inner corallite is about 4 mm, it could be Stylina tumularis (Michelin, 1841) that occurs from the Oxfordian into the Aptian.
fifbrindacier
It's the size of some of the largest "flowers" and the largest space between two of them. The diameter and space i was able to measure is surely about 4 mm.. I measured it with a tape measure used for stitching because i needed Something flexible enough. I only could measure somes near the border because my fingers are too big to measure the ones in the center of the mould. Visually, the largests i measured looked to be the same size than the largests in the center. I guess that the variation we see can be due to the stage of growth of each animal. 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." fifbrindacier
Thanks @doushantuo and @abyssunder for the documents. I tried to do better measures of the coralites, but it's hard to do the more precisely possible, and the result is not about 4 mm but is more near of 3 mm. I'll try to post some pics after work.
