Shellseeker Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I went to the Peace RIver today and will do a trip report in another thread. I found a very curious bone. Curious because it seems to be complete. Curious because it has 3 connection points to other bones. Curious because I have never in 10 years of hunting the Peace River, I can not recall seeing anything similar. The bone measures 1.7x2.0x3.25 inches. Hope someone recognizes. Harry Pristis Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Hulbert didn't have a satisfactory identification of this bone. I have concluded that it is a giant ground sloth sesamoid. 8 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

I thought that this bone might not even be identified. but you have the same/similar bone. You have a reasonable identification. and I have a great preference for Sloth Material!!! Plus , your ID was lightening fast!!... Jack The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
Miocene_Mason Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Wonder how many people on earth right now could identify a ground sloth sesamoid that quick, not many I reckon. 1 Happy hunting, Mason

That's why this favorite little corner of the internet that we call TFF is a very very special place. Every day while browsing this forum I experience shock and awe (but in the best possible way). Cheers. -Ken

Crowd sourcing is an amazing thing (especially when the crowd is as good as ours) Happy hunting, Mason
