Found a complete Ceraurus in the first two minutes, just 50 ft from the car. It will need considerable prep work, as it is mostly still buried in the matrix. 10 minutes later, I look down at my left foot and see that I almost stepped on what is probably the best thing I have ever found! Date found: February 3, 2018 Isotelus gigas(?) Middle Ordovician, Upper Carters Limestone/Lower Hermitage Formation Eastern Middle Tennessee, USA Wow, that's a beautiful trilobite congrats, and you just found it lying there. Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils.
oldtimer
Simply amazing. That is one awesome plate you have prepped. I think the competition has just jumped to the next level. Would like to know how you did the prep work and what tools and techniques you used.
Max-fossils
@FossilSloth gorgeous plate! Well done on the prep Max Derème "I feel an echo of the lightning each time I find a fossil. I think the competition has just jumped to the next level. Would like to know how you did the prep work and what tools and techniques you used. I really had no idea there so many little critters on that plate until I started prepping it. I just kept finding more and more. I used a Paleo Aro and ended up taking a lot of matrix off. Some trilobites were right on the surface, but others, I actually had to dig down about half an inch to find them. That's why that massive crack disappeared. I mostly just removed so much matrix from that area that it was gone. I then used PaleoSculpt to fill in cracks and divots and areas where I was a little too aggressive with the air scribe. I spent a lot of time trying to match the color, and it never came out perfect, but I decided I had to move on. I also did use an Air Eraser with sodium bicarbonate. The matrix was finished with a dremel and also just plain sandpaper, up to 320 grit. The final finish of the trilobites was accomplished with a dremel with a nylon bristle brush attachment, and a bit of polishing compound.
MeargleSchmeargl
So now we have the Trilo Trio. 2 as found, and one prepped. Really tough competition right now for IP. Where are my verts at, though? Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such.

It's still not perfect, but as good as I can get without pulling my hair out. Im with caldigger on this. You did a purty dang good job fixing that damage. hauyn888
Last Sunday we had fantastic weather and I met with my collector colleague for brachiopod hunting ... I had an incipient flu in my bones, but I really wanted to go collecting ... finally I found a reward for this small, inconspicuous piece of greywacke that fascinates me because of the visible inner structure. I'm always surprised how such filigree structures are preserved in the coarse-grained greywacke. Of the many finds that day, this was my special find. Unfortunately, I do not have a binocular with a phototube ... but a small, cheap, Chinese handheld microscope camera, it can zoom up to 2oo times magnification and at the same time send digital images to the PC ..... awesome! (... for the beginning ) Here are the results: Fossil: crinoid stone core Age: Devonian, Lower Devonian Formation: Emsium 392 - 407 Mill Date: 18.February 2018 ~ 14:00 h Location: Grauwacke quarry near Niederfell, Untermosel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany The fossil is a dump finding and was not prepared - photographed as found. Thanks again to Ray for the photo cube - his first use.
