Wow, those finds are insane. I'm really getting more and more jealous that I couldn't make it, it seems like it was such an awesome, beautiful day with a bountiful of finds from everyone. Really glad though that you guys had a blast!

(This might start becoming repetitive, but I just can't say it enough:) I am LOVING the bivalves!!!

Well Max since you and your family love to travel so much, you should persuade your parents to visit New York!

Hahaha, very true. But I've already tried to convince them to go to so many places (because so many are awesome for fossil collecting) that they're not exactly so eager to listen to my requests as much :P I did manage to convince them to go to Cap-Blanc-Nez next week, so that's great! :D

A lot of great specimens there, Tim. Congratulations. I particularly like the bivalves- Cimitaria, Paleoneilo, Cypricardella, and Pholadella out of the matrix, and the Palaeozygopleura gastropods wrapped in bryozoans. Here's another addition to the fauna list, an unidentified crinoid stem- resembles Pentacrinus with the star-shaped discs, but isn't. Anyone want to make a stab at an ID, go for it. Thanks.

Nice! :)

We have 'pentacrinites' type stems from the Devonian here in Morocco too, but I don't know the genus.

@Fossildude19 that is an amazing haul! :trilosurprise:

Well done Tim!

I'm still surprised at the level of preservation of the bivalves (and the gastropods!) of the area, especially considering they are that old.

  • Thank You 1

The pictures don't do justice to the preservation of some of the material that comes from there.

Today I checked on the matrix that I brought home from the Briggs Road portion of Saturdays hunt. The matrix has been sitting in my garden and today most pieces had enough cracks running through them so I decided to look for hidden treasures. There was only one piece that gave up something more than what you saw on the outside. This started out as just an Eldredgeops thorax and pygidium.  After breaking apart it revealed an enrolled trilo with only the thorax showing. Then there is a nice Cephalon almost totally exposed along with two other cephalons showing just eyes and cheek! I haven't tried my hand at prep in quite some time but I think this may be worth giving a shot.

Ok so I wanted to share one more thing. I know I already showed the tiny Dipleura I found. It was the highlight of my day. It is approximately 5 cm or 2inches long. I found it while trying to clear off a ton of debris offmy intended digging spot. I was using a hoe to pull down they derbris which was mostly small flakes. Every once in a while the hoe would snag a bigger chunk. At my leisure I would inspect some of these chunks. I just was fortunate to inspect the right one. The trilo was barely hanging on to a very fractured chunk of rock. Luckily I was able to break off the flake it rested on without it breaking into a bunch of tiny pieces. I thought the left side was missing. On closer inspection I found that the left side was folded over and flattened. The trilo has some cheek and nose damage. Regardless a very nice find in my book. I took some close-ups that I hope you will enjoy.
