It is a toss up of what was my favorite find from today, I had 2. I will start off with a very stunning Cyclus americanus. My next favorite is a very nice Palaeoxyris. Both are very sweet! Nimravis
Today I spent about 1 hour after work cracking concretions and did not find much of anything, but did find a couple cool non-fossil things. Here are the non-fossil items first: A concretion with what I believe is some pretty chalcopyrite. Here is another concretion with pyrite- looks like 3 ghosts. @ynot Tony, I am not sure if these are crystals, but they sure look like it. I put these off to the side, rather than throwing them away like I normally do. If you would like to take a look at them, let me know and I will send them your way. Here is a super big concretion that I have had outside for a couple years, sometime I will get around to hitting it with a hammer. Here are some Bivalves. Here is a poor Essexella asherae Jellyfish This may be a worm or just the way the concretion cracked open. The only piece of flora from today Alethopteris. Here are a couple things that I will need to look into too later. Hopefully tomorrow I will have time to open some more.

This is probably iridescent pyrite instead of copper pyrite. The iridescence comes from an oxidized layer. I have seen similar pyrite in concretions from the Eagle Ford Group in Midlothian, Texas. If copper pyrite were present you probably would see other copper minerals such as azurite and malachite. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Pyrite 2 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. Nimravis
This will be my shortest post of this thread. Today I opened the below, large, concretions from Pit 4 (Braidwood Biota)and found absolutely nothing. I then opened about 45 concretions from the Braceville Shaft Mine (Essex Biota), all I found was a Myalinella bivalve and and a very small piece of bark. Hopefully I will have better luck tomorrow and will be able to devote more time.

Nimravis
Today I spent a few hours opening concretions that I collected from Pit 4 in May of 2003 and a bunch of smaller concretions that I collected from Pit 11 during April of 2005. I will start with my favorite find of the day and it came out of Pit 4. Lepidodendron aculeatum Bark Mariopteris (??) Pecopteris Alethopteris Bark Here are some of my finds from the Pit 11 concretions. Essexella asherae Jellyfish Peachocaris strongi Shrimp Shrimp Molt Partial Shrimp (??)
Nimravis
Myalinella meeki Bivalve Annularia radiata Worm (??) Unknown- I will need to look into these later. Pit 11 concretions also contain what I believe is pyrite- they always look like UFO's.

This does have the General shape of a cladodont type shark but I am unaware of any having been found in the Mazon Creek Deposit. i have found a few in some nearby black Shale exposures. From the pictures, it appears to more likely be plant material. All of the teeth I have seen/collected have a different preservation.
