Either way , this rock looks nothing like BLT's piece to Me. First off it is not limestone.Second is the straightness of Your example does not fit the tapering curve seen in Her piece. The only thing I could find this time that seemed to match is black turmoline. It's been years since I found and identified it on the internet. Who knows what I stumbled onto. The rock mine is in is very reactive in vinegar, and I'm pretty sure it was a layer in a very fossiliferous boulder. They aren't the same no, but they are more alike than not. Tourmaline is a high temperature mineral and can have calcite association, but would not be found in association with limestone, altho they can be found with marble. BLT
I guess the consensus is that my rock is Mississippian limestone with styolites. Thanks to all who weighed in with their opinion. ~ Tracey
