Fossildude19
I personally try to collect more complete specimens. Without seeing the entire plate, I would hesitate to give an opinion on this one. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." oilshale
Are you sure this is a coccosteus? That looks more like scales. 2 Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).

Fossildude19
@oilshale Thomas, Do you think this is more likely to be a Cheirolepis, due to the small scale size? Was also my first thought. I don't think that's a head shield. Fossil Fish of Caithness.pdf "Cheirolepis This fish is rare and grew to 30cm long. It should prompt if you want to copy it to iPhoto. Another way is to simultaneously press the home and the on/off button on the upper right edge, which will take a screenshot. As the screenshot may include extraneous stuff, go into iPhoto, select "edit", and you can crop the image there. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
