Preparations are afoot all over the globe for Christmas day, including the anticipated revelation of the Secret Santa items! In the hinterlands of SC the snollywife issued her oft repeated order; "Get your (insert colorful descriptive language) off my dining room table!" snolly of course is not a complete fool, so he quickly made a dent in the massive pile o' stuff. However, a home has yet to be determined to serve as a final resting place for the large Mosasaur jaw piece...so, snolly cleverly pushed it to the side in the hope the snollywife would not notice.

A little later snolly noticed the table bedecked with Christmas themed plates, glassware, napkins, and...

Well,  guys, I'm afraid I'll be a little slow posting pictures of the fossils currently wrapped under my tree. IMG_4604.thumb.JPG.43acb6efdbe7ec30829e58b37db37113.JPG

Happy Christmas, everyone!!!

Here is Viola after she opened up her fossil box - her Secret Santa sent her fossils from the U.K., and as you can see from the photo, she is quite pleased with what she received:

And here is the group of fossils I received from my Secret Santa - they're mostly from Portugal with a couple of items from Belgium and France:

My personal favourite is a dinosaur vertebra from the Upper Jurassic of Cambelas, Torres Vedras in Portugal:

My first recognizable dinosaur bone!!!  Woohoo!!!

Thanks to both of our Secret Santas for their generous offerings!!!

You mean for once she didn't hurriedly scuttle her goods back to her lair ( bedroom ) before anyone could see what she got?!

Santa delivered the good this year . Some really interesting and beautiful fossils. I can’t choose a favourite it is a 6 way tie. I have always like the 3 toed horse, in the evaluation of the horse this is the most interesting page. The dung beetle ball is a double trace fossil and real cool. Also the tree scale print has such a beautiful pattern and something I wanted to add to my collection for some time.  Any turtle or tortoise material is alway of interest to me.

thank you so very much Santa it was an wonderful gift and the extras are cool too.

Merry Christmas

Ditto here. I can just imagine the itch under that cast! At least the fingers should be able to tear at the wrapping paper.

I was up early to get into my Secret Santa present and post pictures BEFORE the family woke up!! Santa left me his portrait, but I never pictured Santa looking like this:

 DSC_0127-001.thumb.JPG.8cba9f83d7a072aa4155860f7033d96b.JPG

I was definitely hesitant to go further, after seeing this. All of the presents sent  must be lumps of coal. Maybe I was a bad boy this year and didn't even know it!! So after staring at the wrapping paper for what seemed like an eternity, I came to the conclusion that I needed to open the gift. If it is coal, I needed to relive my past year, figure out what I had done to be labeled "BAD" by Santa, and make good to whom ever I slighted. So when the wrapping paper was removed from the first present, I was overwhelmed with JOY! No coal and better yet, a beautiful fossil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once the first present was opened, the rest did not take long.

If you are not a believer in Santa Claus, let me tell you something special about my fossil gifts. My Grandparents were immigrants from Germany. So when I was a sophomore in high school (1972), I had the opportunity to visit Germany with them, specifically, the area that they grew up in. Many, many fond memories of that trip dance like sugar plumbs in my head at night. So once I was over the excitement of these treasures, I took the time to find out where they came from. To my astonishment, most were found within 30 miles of my Grandparent's stomping grounds. So you see, Santa IS real. No one else would have known this!!

Santa  Frohe Weihnachten Roger. Ihre Großzügigkeit wird sehr geschätzt. Ich habe Ihre Sammlung immer bewundert und bin nun stolzer Besitzer eines Stücks Deutschland. Wirklich dankbar, Mike

Viola's Secret Santa is based in the U.K., and she got some fossils from there as well as from Poland, Hungary, France, and the U.S.A.

Her favourites are the shells, I think - no surprise there!
