We missed both of you out there, Mike. But  I know it wouldn't have been enjoyable for you out there.

We'll get out there again in better weather. :)

Thanks, Tim. I would have enjoyed it, weather or not, but I don't think Leila would have, and I don't see well enough to drive myself. That should get fixed soon though, and then we'll decide on another car too. With any luck we'll get out there in the fall. Till then I still have quite a few DSR chunks to play with.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Holy First Timer's luck, Batman!      :default_faint:

A complete crinoid AND a complete Dipleura on your first trip there?  Unbelievable!     :envy:

Well, I did end up donating blood and finger parts to the rocks while there ;) Not only 1st timer but found the Dilpeura in the 1st 20 minutes! Wasn't sure about the crinoid when split as the rock was a little wet n dirty but I've always believed in the "if it looks weird,  take it" you can always figure out later what it is.

Well, that was the karma payback for you, from my having lost the two partial fossils you tossed over to me. :P

Now a few from Briggs rd. Nothing life changing (as far as I know??) but did get a couple firsts and added I think 2 new trilobites to my collection. Once home will go through the items better and finalize my list (that won't happen for well over a month) Last big prone trilobite (just over 2 inch) has a tiny (less the .25 inch attached to opposite piece) trilobite along edge of piece (inverted). Next time if I have to I will make a scale for photos. Was just in hurry as I was packing them for shipment.

If anyone wants a PDF copy of well-illustrated fossil guide that's now out of print, PM me. I'm talking about "Devonian Fossils of New York" by Linsley. Until very recently, it was available on the website for PRI, but it's not there now.

The book in question is one of two that I rely on for ID-ing bivalves and brachiopods.

I'd love one now that I have some finds to research :) If via email PM me. Thanks

Here are a few other finds. I'm hoping the single greenops is complete just buried. All my finds are being shipped to home except for Dilpurea so I can be sure it survives. All these are my better DSR finds. Briggs rd will be next.

An incredible set of finds, but the crinoid- OMG. That is by far the most complete one I've ever see from DSR. For me that is worth a dozen complete Dipleuras.

Those sites are envious collecting spots. The sites that keep on giving...

I like them all but that crinoid is especially nice.

Nice trilobites! You really found some good pieces that day.

I should check my field guide to be certain, but I think I can ID your bryozoans. The one on the left (with the ridge down the middle) is Taeniopora exigua, the other is Sulcoretipora incisurata. Here's a link to a page with good info on Windom shale fossils: LINK. That's specific to what can be found at a different site than DSR or Briggs, but a lot of the material is the same.

Enjoy!

Sweet Goniatite Tony!

Thanks, Dave.  It took some creative prep.  If you'll recall, it was split by a natural fracture in the rock and I took it home in 2 big chunks - Then glued and prepped down to the fossil.

What a great trip report, people, not only amazing finds despite the weather, but the camaraderie is evident.

That crinoid is sensational.

Some nice brachiopods too.

Glad you all had fun and found beautiful fossils.

Thanks for sharing to you all. :)

Took most of the words I wanted to say. Was a very good read while in the bathroom. :P Looks like everyone had success and a lot of fun. One day I'll have to make time to go out with a group and do the same, I'm solo 90% of the time. Very nice fossils that everyone posted! I love all the trilobites, I'm jealous!

I'll be posting some of my (and Mr. Spirifer's) find sometime in the next couple of days. We've started going through the boxes and picking out the best examples. We'll set up a card table tonight and spread them all out, then I'll start photogging.

Watch this space! :D

Love seeing all the other finds and comments.  Won't be seeing mine for well over a month though they are already arrived home.

Sorry guys, I haven't had a chance to post anything as I got called out of town the day after our hunt and just made it home for mothers day finally. I have yet to unpack my truck but will try to get to it tonight if the weather allows. It was a great trip and I enjoyed meeting everyone, and of course, thank you guys for the invite and thanks to @Fossildude19 for his knowledge of the fossils at DSR.
