Is this a rarer species?

It looks quite different from other platycerids I have seen.

Adam,

I believe it is a rare species, especially so, at this locality.

I've only found two in over 8 years of collecting at this locality.

Both were covered in a bryozoan, which I removed on this example, to try to get a more accurate ID.
