I believe might be a coral or sponge of some sort any ideas? Found around smithville Tennessee

An eroded specimen of the coral Plasmopora, perhaps?

If you can use an ultra-sound tank and your coral is not cracked, it will come out much cleaner! It seems difficult to clean in the cells. Otherwise, you can soak it in water with a little hydrogen peroxide and rinse it afterwards.
