Fin Lover
Found several shark verts and a bony fish vert yesterday along with these two big verts. I haven't found verts this size before, and haven't been able to identify them. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Lucid_Bot
I have no idea what you have beyond vertebrae, but nice finds.
Fin Lover
Found this picture on another post here on the forum. Based on this, my first vert would be some sort of large bony fish. The second vert looks amphiplatyan as far as being mainly flat on both ends (there is a little concavity in the center, but there is on her picture as well). So, either land mammal or cetacean, correct? Thanks! Edited August 30, 2022 by Fin Lover Deleted duplicate picture 1 Fin Lover
Scylla
Location and age of formation go a long way in helping get an ID.
Fin Lover
Sorry, location was in the tags. Ladson/Summerville, SC in a creek with multiple formations in the banks. Oligocene, Miocene, and Pleistocene finds there so far. Fin Lover

Fin Lover
I've been searching more for answers on my 2nd vert and found a post with pictures that looks like mine (except that mine doesn't have any of the processes): Anyway, this led me to a paper of Bobby's that I wanted to attach, in case it can be helpful IDing odontocete verts, skull elements, etc. in the future. If you would rather download it yourself from the link, it is https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0186476 file.pdf Edited September 1, 2022 by Fin Lover Added link Fin Lover
hemipristis
The top vertebrae resembles either tarpon or drum, both of which have been recovered in that area 1 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.'
