@Manticocerasman ? @nala ? @Coco ? @fifbrindacier ? Do you have any comments on this development?

Well, the text on his website says it al, he has lost faith in the future of Paleontology in France.

I don't know if it is related to the developments in Normandy. I wont elaborate on that subject since a lot has been discussed already and it has a lot to do with political stuf. But if someone wants to discuss it or has questions about the happenings in Normandy feel free to pm me for info.

The situation in several countries in Europe are pretty good arguments in favor of giving amateur collectors permission to collect, IMO. My research has always benefited from/enriched by amateur collectors, either from amateur knowledge of localities, direct field assistance from amateurs, or donations of specimens. The occasional whale or dolphin here in South Carolina gets mangled or sold off, but by and large most end up in a museum, and far more are destroyed by construction equipment than are collected improperly. I'd rather have a private collector know how to jacket a cetacean skull than butcher it - if it erodes away or is chopped up, nothing can be done with it, but if it is collected and prepared well, it may end up in a museum and be available for study eventually. We need you guys.

And honestly, we've all met academic ivory tower snobs who have ##### us off - and I do mean us - so that article was not only a bit of a love letter to my amateur colleagues but a wake up call for the real doofuses in my field who do not know what they're missing.

I'm right now hunting on the Vaches Noires in Normandy.

I visited the Paleospace luseum in Villers-sur-Mer.

Not only do they mention their collaboration with the amateurs, but they also encourage the visitors to go on the foreshore to look for fossils and they indicate by a video how to go there.

As in a lot of different areas, I think the professionals that DO like to work with us amateur scientists need to make more noise. Unfortunately it is the "anti amateur" professionals that make the most noise.

I visited the site once and really enjoyed the information and photos. Such a shame that such a great website is gone :shakehead:

Well, i think this is Hervé Chatelier, this site looks too much like the precedent that great are the chances the owner is the same person.
