johnnyvaldez7.jv
This small piece is 1.5 inches in length. I initially thought it was just some sort of concretion... but after looking at it closely, I'm not so sure it is. Under what I believe is an enamel or dentin there are these rings that seem to be consistent throughout. Even underneath at the bottom and inside there seems to be dentin. I believe there are lines (transverse?) on the edges as well or perhaps they are scratches. Anyone have any idea? It's pretty cool whatever it is. Also, the river does put a lot of wear and tear on other teeth and bones I've found. Edited May 10, 2023 by johnnyvaldez7.jv

Wow, in any place where you can have marine mammal fossils, this photo screams "Whale"... I will be intensely interested in seeing an identification other than whale for this fossil. Let me munch the popcorn. a 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
johnnyvaldez7.jv
Whale would have been crazy to have found down here in these parts. Now I'm getting the popcorn too!! Edited May 10, 2023 by johnnyvaldez7.jv

johnnyvaldez7.jv
Would a barnacle have dentin or enamel? The 7th pic seems to have dentin in the interior.

You can bet that I saw some crazy barnacles that I thought were whale when they dropped into my screen on the Peace river a couple of years back.... so I could become a believer... Your fossil , I think, may be silicified... 1 1 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
Brandy Cole
I agree with Jack that it almost looks silicified to me. Is there any chance this could be a silicified cretaceous fossil, like a rudist? I get cretaceous finds that wash down this way occasionally. 1 1
johnnyvaldez7.jv
Thank you @Shellseeker, @Brandy Cole, and @debivort for your thoughts. It is unexpected and unusual for me. Had no idea cretaceous material came down this way.
johnnyvaldez7.jv
@Rockwood @GPayton Are you guys familiar with rudists and could this be that silicified? I've been trying to compare online images.
Rockwood
It looks agatized to me. And it looks odd enough for me to try to apply the Texas rule. That's as close as I come to any familiarity with rudists though. 1 1

johnnyvaldez7.jv
Could this have happened? Perhaps it was longer and more complete and completely round or oval. At the one end that throws me off is actually unfolded and eventually hardened that way? Edited May 11, 2023 by johnnyvaldez7.jv

I don't think it's any kind of tooth. From what I can see, I vacillate between a banded agate and invertebrate. 1 1 1 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
