Need ID-ideas for this

Looks like possible shell material, but given the type of stone it is in, I wouldn't be surprised to find this was a mineral inclusion of some sort.

More of the item would need to be exposed to say anything definitive.

The rock itself looks like a type of metamorphic granite lots of crystal structures…. I’m thinking mineral as well . Unless the matrix is volcanic and just appears colorful because of algae growth then I’m thinking volcanic glass.

I agree it does look like granite! But obsidian forms when magma cools very quickly, and granite forms when it cools slowly. I don't think they co-occur? @OverHolluf Any sense that the dark material can transmit light?
