OverHolluf
Found in Italy. Something dark in a stone :-)
Fossildude19
Cropped and brightened: Looks like possible shell material, but given the type of stone it is in, I wouldn't be surprised to find this was a mineral inclusion of some sort. More of the item would need to be exposed to say anything definitive. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Stingray
The rock itself looks like a type of metamorphic granite lots of crystal structures…. I’m thinking mineral as well . Unless the matrix is volcanic and just appears colorful because of algae growth then I’m thinking volcanic glass. debivort
I agree it does look like granite! But obsidian forms when magma cools very quickly, and granite forms when it cools slowly. I don't think they co-occur? @OverHolluf Any sense that the dark material can transmit light?
