Greetings.  I am here to do some fossil research for art projects.  I work in mosaics and metal and up until now have just taken severe liberties in my creations and now I wish to create true to form.  So basically, I will be looking around and learning, but I may have questions and so I thought it best to introduce myself.  For the most part I will just lurk, as they say.   I had a collection of specimens but now have exactly one fossil that survived over the years, an ammonite I bought in Morocco when I was in the Navy.  Oddly enough, my mineral collection survived intact over time.  I won't deny the old collecting bone is starting to jigger around, again.  Good day to all.

Short edit window.  I was going to edit "collecting bone" to "get out and find something interesting" bone.

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

Thank you, thank you.  I did some cursory looking around before I signed up, but didn't quite grasp the scope of this forum.  I am going to have fun looking around here.  I will share a photo of my surviving ammonite if anybody is interested.

Hello, and a very warm welcome to TFF from Morocco. :)

That is a Devonian goniatite, not and ammonite, goniatites are much older.

Probably Late Devonian.

not and ammonite

Thank you for pointing this out to me...  a bit embarrasing to me on my first post on this forum but a small price to pay for learning something new.  I won't even say how long I have had it and been calling it an ammonite....

Also thanks for the welcomes!  Great forum/resource here.  I have barely scratched the surface, but among other things I found Paleo Re-creations sub forum which is kind of in my wheelhouse, I love art.  And fossils.... And rocks and minerals.... And dinosaurs... And, and, and......
