New Members S. K. Posted May 8 New Members Share Posted May 8 I have an elephant bird egg that is whole but has been in the family for nearly 70 years. What is their classification in the customs rule if I need to shift countries and bring it with me? Also, who do you contact to get it appraised and do paperwork on it? I would be grateful for any information on the same.
Fin Lover
Some basic information would help members be able to answer. Which country are you coming from and which country are you moving to? Edited May 8 by Fin Lover Fin Lover
aplomado
Is it perfectly whole? Because intact elephant bird eggs are incredibly rare. Why don't you post some pictures of yours? I would love to see it.
New Members S. K. Posted May 8 Author New Members Share Posted May 8 Yes, it is completely whole. It's at my place at Comoros, and I intend to move to India soon, al I wanted to know if it can be brought along and how. My grandfather got it nearly 70 years ago as gift, so the egg doesn't have any documentation or anything official.

It's measurements are: - circumference: approx 27.5 cm - hight: approx 31 cm - width: approx 22 cm Since I'm not a pro, all measurements are an approximate to the millimetre. The country I'm in, Comoros, doesn't have a paleontological department who could authenticate it for me. Is there any international body I can contact who would authenticate this one for me? Getting legal advice from an online forum is a sure way to end up with more headaches than you initially bargained for. 1 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." North
How its viewed depends on country. Best to contact the customs in Comoros and India well ahead. Answer might take a long time. 1 There's no such thing as too many teeth.

Fossildude19
Looks like it is sat in a bowl, with the cloth covering the bowl, making the egg ends look flat. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." rocket
bit complicate without documentation..., but possible Check the rules of India if you are allowed to import it There are some on the market and could be shipped around the world, so it will work with the right information and documentation
