masonboro37
Today I met about 15 members of the NC Fossil Club out at one of my favorite quarries in Eastern Coastal NC. The weather could not have been better and there was such a pleasant Fall breeze. I did not think I was going to be able to meet my fossil friends today, but I was lucky and could be fit in at the last moment. As always, great to catch up with everyone and meet other avid fossil collectors. First off we spotted some great tracks probably from a Coyote. One member is very versed in wildlife and she agreed it was and probably a young one walking with an adult. This was an awesome trip. I started off in the normal Eocene, Castle Hayne Formation and tinkered around that spot for a few hours. I did find some echi's and was delighted. There is still zero access now to my favorite best spot to find echi's. We were all warned to NOT go back there! We were all good girls and boys and followed the rules. After that we were allowed to go to a pump area and search the Cretaceous, Peedee Formation. This was a very small area, but with the small group it accomidated us just fine! One member found a beautiful Hardouinia kellumi echi immediatley. I found one a bit later and not a pristine as hers. There were plenty of Hardounia mortonis echi's to be found and I was happy with my haul. My find of the day was a crab carapace! I have never, ever found one and my heart was beating fast when I saw it. I could not believe it was right in front of me. I realize that crab carapace's are not found often at this quarry and it will be treasured! No teeth today and that is ok by me. Just thrilled with the crab carapace. Made my day! Have a great weekend everyone! Libby Process of identification "mistakes create wisdom".

Al Dente
I don't think I've ever seen a crab like that from the Cretaceous of NC. It is a very nice find. Your brachiopod looks like Probolarina salpinx, another nice find.
