I took a road trip today and hit everything from the Austin Chalk in Ellis County, TX:

to the Goodland limestone of western Tarrant County, TX:

While in the Austin Chalk of Ellis County, I found this unusual concretion:

The piece is approximately 50mm x 25mm.

I thought the "vertical" structure seemed unusual.

Gypsum or calcite, maybe?

It also looks like some sort of mineral, possibly calcite to me.

It looks like a nice road trip. Think about how many millions of years you traversed on your trip back in time from the Austin Group to the Fredericksburg Group.

I take it the Austin did not yield many goodies?
