I think you have part of a turtle.

Looks like a sacrum? Where was it found?

I agree. I don't think it is part of a turtle.

I know, I'm hoping it's from a caveman, or at least a few hundred years old ......... seriously !!!

Yeah, that's way bigger than I thought.

Yeah, that's way bigger than I thought.

I wonder what the average size of a human one is ......although, I'm sure it depends on the age

Gee, I'm missing mine. Want to trade?

Neat find. Does look human but....no idea of what other mammal sacrums look like.

Regardless, never came across a human bone before and wonder if I'd recognize one unless the skull.

I don't have my human anatomy book here, but it sure does look human. Look at the way the articular surface for the last lumbar vert (top edge in last photo) is so much bigger than the articular surface for the first tail bone (bottom edge ion same photo). And I think the five fused verts is typically human. A dog for example only has three. I leave it open to discussion.

In side view, how much does it curve back?

Knowledge has three degrees-opinion, science, illumination. The means or instrument of the first is sense; of the second, dialectic; of the third, intuition.

Update - because this did turn out to be a human bone, I gave it to the Police; they were very interested & will have it tested for dating; etc. I'm happy sticking with fossils & delighted to get it out of here !!!
