Only way we collect much of anything around here is to be a member of a rock & mineral club.  Unfortunately they are an hour & half or more away,

Being a member does not meen You have to attend the meetings, but it gives You access to the field trips.

If the club belongs to the federation of rock clubs, You also have access to other club's field trips (for when You travel.)

That's true.  I would like to join one that has a kids club so my son could be involved too since he's turning out to be quite the little rockhound like i was as a kid.

Well, not all of the quartz crystals I find are supper clean. Some are frosted from other minerals growing with them.

Others have a coat of agate on them.

Here is one that has both things going on.

And an unusual combination of actinolite and some copper minerals.

Here is a small crystal from the last pocket (the one that I did a dig report on.). This came out of the edge of the crystalized area, and was the area where the crystals all had a phantom.

And a pyrite crystal from an old gold mine south of Me.

Here are 2 views of a piece from a copper mine in Nevada.. The white area is a broken up calcite vein with several copper minerals filling the space between the chunks.

The piece has been polished but has a vug exposed that shows botryoidal malachite. (first picture.)

DSCF5342.thumb.JPG.8cb570e07833538f3a6d63ce68b79ca6.JPGDSCF5343.thumb.JPG.31f04892b99de3be6e54a1de6a54c7ac.JPG

And a couple of pieces of "fire agate" that show the botryoidal habit of agate/chalcedony. These came from the Black Hills of Arizona. (not polished.)

That is it until I can take some more pictures.

Hope Y'all are enjoying the show.

Tony

What a splendid collection.

Thank you so much for sharing with us.

I will post some of my own (on another thread) soon, hopefully.

Some of those crystals are quite stunning and I love the rutile stuff particularly.

Thought I would do a little change up.

Instead of crystals, here are some agate pieces (Geodes, nodules and thundereggs.)

First a piece of a large nodule geode.

Was found in rhyolitic volcanic lava fields near Luna New Mexico. (10,000 ft elevation)
