ynot
This time a journey to Arizona's round mountain rockhounding site. (East of Tucson.) A couple of agate nodule/geode. It is real hard to get a good picture of the interior of these. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." ynot
Two posts up is a dugway geode with a black crystal growth that is covered with calcite. I was playing with a photo stacking program and My amscope to see if I could get a nice view of the structure. Here are the results. First picture is 24 images stacked, second picture has 12 pictures (from same files) stacked. Which one do Y'all think is better? Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Can You see the cat and dog in it? And a couple of agate nodule halves from Luna New Mexico.. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." doushantuo
Nice! Makes you wonder though: "Hiddenite'' itself almost sounds like a nickname mineral ("it was so hard to find,we decided to call it hiddenite")

Makes you wonder though: "Hiddenite'' itself almost sounds like a nickname mineral ("it was so hard to find,we decided to call it hiddenite") The city is named for the type mineral from a mine in the area. I do not know how the name for the mineral came to be. Maybe some "good old boys" were looking for a place to hide the still at night when they found the mine. ynot
Another thunderegg from Deming New Mexico. This one has the salmon colored feldspar that is unique to the site. And an agate nodule geode from Luna New Mexico that has an iron stain on it making the inside a reddish color. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." ynot
Here is one of the larger geodes I found at the Dugway geode beds. This one has a unique showing of "fire agate" under the druzy quartz that lines the inside. (It is hard to see, bit the purple orange and yellow sparkles in the closeups are caused by the iridescent fire agate under the quartz druze. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." ynot
I wanted to revisit a couple of the crystals that I have already shown, hopefully with better pictures. My best rutilated quartz... ynot
When I was 15, My Dad took My brother and Me deer hunting in the Apple Hill area near Placerville, California. Did not see a single deer, but I did find some pieces of rutilated quartz (already pictured) and My first quartz crystal. While looking for something else, I came across that crystal again... Not the best of crystals, but for a 15 year olds first quartz it was a great find. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."
