I think you are correct. It seems like a skull part. Thanks

I can see this possibly being part of a skull, but it doesn't look like any part of a mosasaur skull I've worked with.

Jarrod, I combined your new topic with the old one and moved it to the Fossil ID subforum. It's always best to keep discussions of the same find in the same topic. ;)

I believe that is an X-fish skull part. This photo is of the inside of the top portion.

Can we see a close-up of the bone texture?

Just for the record... you people make me sick! Every time I go out to the NSR, I come home with a bunch of junk fossils! :envy:

Yup! Big fish neurocranium. Most likely Xiphactinus. That is a super find. Nice and 3D without crushing.

This looks like marine turtle bone texture to me. I've seen similar large, light colored areas in turtle vertebrae where attached to the carapace.

I suggested Protostega but didn't get any action on those thoughts

It very well could be. I couldn't find any examples online to compare.

no no no. I found the picture to prove that the find in this post is the base of a fish skull. Compare the two and you will see. This skull was found years ago by a friend....
