Fossil-Hound
Here's mine. Acquired during a trade. All of these are Virginia based finds. Large scute, two large crocodile teeth, and two smaller crocodile teeth (one has compressions). I'll have to ID these later. Do or do not. Paleoworld-101
Here's some of my British collected material. I may get around to posting my Australian Cretaceous turtle bits later on. For now, these are crocodilian (Diplocynodon hantoniensis) and turtle (Emys and Trionyx) fossils that i've found from the Bouldnor Formation on the Isle of Wight, in England. About 33 million years old (earliest Oligocene epoch). Diplocynodon teeth: Diplocynodon verts: Diplocynodon scutes (including a parietal skull fragment in the second pic): Diplocynodon jaws: Some Emys turtle shell fragments (got literally hundreds of these): Large piece of Trionyx shell: And a final in-situ piece of Trionyx turtle shell on Bouldnor Beach for good measure: "In Africa, one can't help becoming caught up in the spine-chilling excitement of the hunt. Perhaps, it has something to do with a memory of a time gone by, when we were the prey, and our nights were filled with darkness..." -Eternal Enemies: Lions And Hyenas
Ash
Bout time ya added the pics, Nathan! Were these a salt or freshwater species? Couldn't remember if i posted in this thread yet or not. Freshwater. The depositional environment of the Bouldnor Formation however swings back and forth between freshwater lakes, wetlands, brackish lagoons and even fully marine at a few levels. They're fairly common amongst the smaller pebbles and sands on the beach. You can sit in one spot and rake through the shingle by hand and pick them out, usually if you keep at it you can probably get a few in a day. My highest was 5 on a single trip. But as you can see they're all rather small. My biggest is about 15mm. The croc itself was quite small, only a couple metres long i believe, which i find a bit strange since it was the only croc in the area and there was a lot of big tasty mammals roaming around the lakes and wetlands. Jesuslover340
Well, this weekend has proved @Ash and I sorely wrong. Typically, we only find a crocodile (Pallimmarchus pollens) scute a year. But this last weekend, we've found THREE! One being the most largest and most complete we have ever found! Here's the latest one: This is the second: "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:
Jesuslover340
This was our scute for the year until we found three this weekend: "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:
Jesuslover340
Annnnd the BIG one. When we first saw this in the bank, the same thought went through our mind: croc scute. But in the back of my mind, I tried to still my hopes, believing it could be just a regular fragment of flat bone. But as we dug around it to loosen the dirt, I could feel the pitting on the underside...imagine our shock when we pulled it all out! 1 "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:
Ash
Many good memories made this weekend. The highlight for me remains with the fragment of euowenia jaw.
